A malicious software has installed a "custom toolbar" in my Excel workspace.
I can delete it from individual workbooks using View/Toolbars but it keeps on re-appearing on new Excel Workbooks. How can I delete this "Custom Toolbar" for ever and ever from the workspace, not just from the Excel Workbook? Alternatively how can I create a new workspace that does not inherit this old custom toolbar? |

First thing I would look for is the source of the "malicious software". Check ToolsAdd-ins to see if you can find anything there that might be adding the Toolbar. If you don't recognize anything, uncheck them all and restart Excel. If Toolbar comes back, look in your XLSTART folder for a file that is doing the deed. Perhaps Personal.xls is adding the Toolbar. Move it out of the XLSTART folder temporarily. If nothing there, go to ToolsOptionsGeneral and delete any path in "alternate startup file location" or "at startup, open all files in" You can also locate your *.XLB file and re-name it to *.XXX and restart Excel to see if that helps. If it is the Personal.xls file adding the Toolbar, it is possible it was created using a pre-Excel97 version which used the Menu Editor. If that's the case.......... Excel 5.0 and earlier used the "Menu Editor" to build menus. This is no longer available in versions newer than 5.0. You can't use the "delete" method or "reset" to get rid of the custom menu items(as you have learned). To get rid of the custom menu download Jim Rech's REMOVEMENUS.ZIP file from Stephen Bullen's site.
