Hi,

When the user clicks on a different cell, every cell starting from the
previous cell gets selected.

I assume that he has enabled some kind of hotkey, but I don't know which.

Does anyone know what hotkey this is?

That is not a hot key. Abuse your mouse a bit, and it will behave again.
Slap the wheel of the mouse quite hard a couple of times, and it should stop
this nonsense

It could be that you have hit F8 function key, which put you into EXTENDED mode.

If you see EXT in the status bar, hit F8 to toggle out.
