Myd efault column headings seemed to have changed to numbers instead of
letters. Row headings are ok, row headings are all numbers. How do I
convert the column headings back to letters.

Use Tools | Options and open the General tab
Top item is "Use R1C1 reference style": unselect this
happy new year
