This is not a rant - believe me, the language would be nastier if it were.
I find the macro process needlessly complicated. Ok, I'm older, but hardly stupid, yet... every time I get near a macro I am frustrated beyond belief. microsoft seems way too carried away with defining things (object, process, whatever) which mean NOTHING to me, rather than providing complete instruction in plain english. WHAT THEY REALLY NEED is a fully interactive macro editor/debugger that can understand requests in plain english, and help you from whatever point you are stuck at. Better yet, you could ask it for samples of the procedure you are trying to do, and adapt them (if needed) to your task. The macro debugger succeeds in making me feel like I've been buggered with a microsoft fist! If I want to really save a macro for use - I discovered that I need to save it in a New Workbook (why do they capitolize that?). WHY do I need to find this out by trial & error? Why is this not imparted anywhere I look for macro writing information? Oh, I guess it's just too simple to need to be explained - because I dug into their tutorial & looked for info for over 2 hours before I tried that. Oh - maybe MS has it somewhere, but they should really have a fully databased help program, that actually teaches you useful information. If it wasn't for the forums, I would never have been able to write a usable, simple macro which I spent 6 feakin' hours on prior to getting help from a forum member. Very annoying. Considering how helpful software can be - intuitive, easy to use, and simple, and a true service that saves time and effort, it's absurd that macros are such a difficult thing to use.
