I have a format where 3 people will key in the data.
I (overall champion) manage the data from cell A1 to A10.
John manage cell B1 to B10
Cindy manage cell C1 to C10.
How can I allow John and Cindy to key (and save) in cell B and C
respectively but prevent them from unintentionally alter cell A?

It's very easy for people to break the security in Excel.

However, if you simply want to prevent accidental damage to the data,
you could put each person's data on a separate sheet, protected with a
unique password.

Then, on a summary sheet, you could link to the other data.

Hi Bayanbaru,

if you only want to allow others to access a certain range, then
select the range, in your example B1:C10, and select 'Format, Cells'.
On the protection tab uncheck the 'locked' marker.

By default everything else should be marked as locked, but to be sure
you should highlight your area, A1:A10, and make sure that it is.

Now you can protect the sheet. Selet 'Tools, Protection, Protect
Sheet'.

This turns on protection for all cells with the protection marker set
(in Format, Cells). As John's and Cindy's areas are not protected they
are free to edit as they wish, but if they try to enter data in your
range they get a message saying its protected.

To enter data in your range you have to go to 'Tools, Protection,
Unprotect Sheet'. Then reprotect it when your done.

This will stop accidental editing of your range. If you want it be
'secure' you should also provide a password when asked in Protect
sheet dialogue.
