Default personal.xls

Is there a way to keep the personal.xls file from automatically opening every
time you start Excel?

You need to move the 'personal.xls' file out of the Excel Startup
folder. It is usually located:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Move it to any desired folder to open at your convenience.

Good Luck

Once it is opened do windowshide and select personal.xls
It is normally hidden but if you want to remove it you can either delete it
or move it
