Default 2 similiar spreasheets with much different size, why! Can I change

I have 2 separate xls files. One has 5 sheets, another has 1 sheet but has
similiar text. The 5 sheet xls file is 30k in size, the other xls with one
sheet is 987k in size. Both spreadsheets are only text. When I copy the 987k
and place into a blank spreadsheet, I still have 987k. If I delete the
contents, the size remains 987k.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have looked at
http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#Unused but this was of no help.
Thanks

If you copy the data from the 987k workbook, and paste it as values in a
blank workbook, is it the same size?

To paste it as values, choose EditPaste Special, select Values, click OK

I was able to copy and paste special as you mentioned. This worked now the
file size is 25k, like it should be. Thanks

Do you know if you can remove the personal.xls and if so, when you restart
Excel, is it recreated as default as in Word with the Normal.dot?

Thanks again!!!!

Cool. Glad you got it to work. Personal.xls is NOT like normal.dot at all.

You're welcome! Thanks for letting me know that it worked.

A new Personal.xls would be created if you record a macro, and choose to
store it in the Personal Macro Workbook. Then, save the Personal.xls
workbook, if prompted, when you close Excel.
