hi,
when you say disk, do you mean floppy, CD-Rom or hard drive? Sometimes when these items become "Full" or almost full, the files automatically become "read-only" as the storage system is not able to write/store any more data. Sometimes on CD, the files become read-only depending on the type of CD-disc you are using and/or how you are WRITING/recording to the disc. Particuliarly with CD, the discs become read-only depending on the way you chose to write/record to the CD. Check your CD set-up and see if you can write without closing the CD that will allow you to continue saving files to the CD and allow your files to be "editable".
