Data Validation lists - entering value not in list

I want to have an incell drop down list - but I also want to enter an
item not on the list. Most of the time the drop down list is fine -
once in a while I want to enter an item not on the list. Is there a way
to set up data validation to be able to do this?

This would be a list of text choices - the list does not consist of
values.

Thanks

Richard

In the data validation dialog box, on the Error Alert tab, remove the
check mark from 'Show error alert after invalid data is entered'
