Default inserting pictures in a workbook

Help!
I wish to insert a picture on an excel page. I have selected cells, merged
them into one, then clicked on the new cell. Then went to insert picture. the
picture inserts, but fills up what is left of the page beyond the top and
left side of the picure - it is too big to be useful. without resizing it,
can I not designate that it remains within the merged cell?
Thanks for the help

Cells can only contain values or formulae.

If you right-click the picture you can resize it to the size you want.
Then in the Properties tab, check Move and Size with cells.
