Default Excel paste ask user credentials

I have a web site with basic authentication on, user sign-in and open a page,
which contains tabulated data. User select and copy (Ctrl+c) the data.
Open Excel 2003 and try to paste the data (Ctrl+V). Now user is chanllenged
to provide his/her credetials by basic authentication dialog box.
If user click "Cancel" couple time, Excel paste the data into spread sheet.

Question: Is this Internet Exlporer (v6.0 or v7.0) setting or Excel is
asking user for credentails? Is there a way to disable it?

NOTE: If I open web page with Firefox copy/paste did not ask any user
credentials.
Any help will be much appreciated.
