The source data for my pivot table is in the same workbook as the table.
Occasionally, I modify the source data, and would like the new values reflected in the pivot table. If I "REFRESH" the table, all of the pivot table fields are removed from the pivot table, and I have to reconstruct the pivot table. So far, the only way that I found to circumvent this is to save and close the workbookm then reopen, ensuring that I have the refresh on open option set. If values have been removed from the row variables, they still show up in the selection boxes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

"If values have been removed from the row variables, they still show up in the selection boxes." If you go to PivotTable Options Data Number of items to retain per field; change this from automatic to none then it will fix this problem for you. Note that it is sometimes desirable to retain these variables. Not sure why you have your first problem as it is not normal. I am using EXCEL 2003 SP2. I cannot locate the options you mention. Thanks for your efforts. PivotTables in Excel 2007 have this option and more, which is not much help to you. As far as clearing old values from the row variables in Excel 2003, this can be done by renaming the field, refreshing the PivotTable and rebuilding it which is the problem that you have in the first place. There are instructions here for clearing old items from the pivot table:
