Formulas don't allow this kind of character by character formatting.

If the cell contains text -- not a formula and not a real number, you can select
different characters in the cell (in the formulabar) and change the formatting (bold/font/font color/etc). wrote: On Apr 12, 1:41 pm, RKS wrote: Hi all, I can join 3 column like (A1-Name, B1- Middle Name and C1 is Surname) in column D thru CONCATENATE(a1,b1,c1) aqnd result display in Column D1. After joining, copy the cell and paste specialvalue to get rid of the formula.
You can then format sections as you like by selecting parts in the formula bar. It's possible to use a macro to change the format of characters in a cell that
contain text. Try recording a macro when you do it. But if the cell contains a formula, then it's not possible. RKS wrote: Hi Dave, thanks for reply. You can't have a formula in the cell, so that means if you
need to combine cells you will need to do the concatenation in the macro, or use copy, then edit, paste special, values. The macro in the following will capitalize and bold the surname as in a phone book with names like Jones, Danny This should get you started if you have worked with macros before Surnames, Special formatting for LASTNAME, firstname http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/surname.htm If not then also see Getting started with macros http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/getstarted.htm -- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP -- Excel My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm "Dave Peterson" wrote in message ...
