I recently install Office 2007. I have Excel files created in Office 2003
that I can not open. I get a message box: "Name Conflict" "name cannot be the same as a built-in name". Then below that message is: "old name: Print_Titles" ,then below that a box to enter "New name:" I'be tried everything I know. -- Roger |

Have you tried to change the name in Explorer, and to then open it?

Maybe you can open the workbook in xl2003. Remove the name and save the file.
Then open the newly saved file in xl2007. Jan Karel Pieterse's (with Charles Williams and Matthew Henson) Name Manager addin should make it a bit easier. You can find it at: NameManager.Zip from http://www.oaltd.co.uk/mvp Roger wrote: I recently install Office 2007. I have Excel files created in Office 2003 that I can not open. Yes, I've tried all kind of names, numbers, nothing works. I've never heard
of this "Name Conflict" message and I don't understand what a "built-in name" is. Thanks, -- Roger "Kassie" wrote: Have you tried to change the name in Explorer, and to then open it? -- Hth Kassie Kasselman Change xxx to hotmail "Roger" wrote: I recently install Office 2007. I used Explorer to drag the file to a diskette, went to another pc that has
Excel 97, opened the file with no problem. Saved the file using a different name and as a Excel 97 workbook. Came back to 2007 and same problem. I can not open the file. I've never heard of this "Name Conflict" or "built-in name". I have no idea what that means and can not find any help with Microsoft Help topics. Workbooks can have names that refer to ranges, constants, formulas.
Excel uses its own names and you can create your own, too. Get that addin and open it and your workbook in xl2002 and you'll see that you have names in that workbook. You can create names via: Insert|Name|define (xl2003 menu system) And if you type Name into excel's help (in the search box), you should find lots of hits.
