Default Protecting Sheet - Excel Stops Responding

I have a co-worker that has approx 3000 rows of 5 columns unlocked. All
other cells in that sheet are locked and cannot be selected. The sheet works
fine like that. However, when he tries to increase the number of rows to be
unlocked (6000 rows of 5 columns) it freaks out Excel. Whenever you try to
move throught the unlocked cells with the arrows, it stops repsonding. Does
anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!
