TAB key doesn't move from cell to cell

I have created a spreadsheet with permissions for users to edit ranges
(without having to enter a password). I protected the worksheet, but now as
users enter information into a cell, they cannot use the TAB key to move from
cell to cell. They are able to use the arrow keys, but old habits are hard
to break and I was wondering if there is a way to make the TAB key usable
again.

Answer: TAB key doesn't move from cell to cell

Hi Sue,

I understand your concern about the TAB key not working in your protected worksheet. The reason why the TAB key is not working is that it is one of the keys that are restricted when you protect a worksheet. However, there is a way to allow the TAB key to work while still keeping the worksheet protected.

Here are the steps to allow the TAB key to work in a protected worksheet:
  1. Go to the "Review" tab in the Excel ribbon.
  2. Click on "Protect Sheet" in the "Changes" group.
  3. In the "Protect Sheet" dialog box, uncheck the "Select locked cells" option.
  4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box and protect the worksheet.

By unchecking the "Select locked cells" option, you are allowing users to select and move between cells that are locked (i.e., the cells that are protected). This will enable the TAB key to work again.

Thank you for the response, but the checkboxes on that tab were already
unchecked so that didn't help solve the issue.

I did find another posting that stated that if all cells are locked (on a
protected sheet), then the TAB key won't work (it only works between unlocked
cells). Unless they are wrong, I guess I'll just have to tell my people to
get used to using the arrow keys.

Thank you again for your quick response. I do appreciate it.
