Default 30 decimal digits

Hi,

A question,

I know that excel is limited to 15 decimal digits.
All following digits are disregarded.

But, and i did not find the answer yet, why is it possible to for,at a
number up to 30 decimal places?

Marketing issue?
Easier colding?

Kind regards,

Willy

Not quite true. 15 *significant* figures is the precision. e.g.
0.000000000000000234234234234234 displays correctly with 30 decimal
places

And if the concept of significant digits is unfamiliar to you: think of the
number being displayed in scientific notation (e.g. 1.23456E-6). Excel can
store the bit in front of E to only 15 digits of precision.
best wishes
