I apologize if I posted this before. I know I did in Access, but I meant to
post in Excel. Been having computer problems - found worms and trojans and still in the process of recovering my computer settings. Excel won't open properly. When I click on an Excel file, the program "opens", but the file does not. I have to go to file, open, and find the specific Excel file AGAIN, and open it. It will then open. I've tried reinstalling Office, and repairing Office, but that did nothing, other than set everthing back to default (except, of course, for Excel!). And, just because I'm not understanding this, do I need to reinstall the SETUPSE.EXE file? When I try, it tells me I do not have IIS 4.0 installed. What the heck is that? I looked it up, but can't get my mind wrapped around that. Is that important for Excel? -- I have a "love/hate" relationship with computers - I love them, they hate me! |

Given that your computer was infected by assorted malware, you might want to
consider reinstalling everything from the ground up. Starting with a complete format of drive C and a clean Windows install. Hopefully, you have your important files backed up so you can reload them upon completing the reinstall. I've found this to be the best method, although it can a time consuming process. At least you'll be able to rest comfortably knowing that there are no hidden worms/trojans/rootkits lurking away on the hard drive. -- Kevin Backmann "CJBookie" wrote: I apologize if I posted this before. I am planning on doing that, but it will have to wait until I have the time.
We just did another computer at work. In the meantime, I'd like to know why Excel isn't opening properly. -- I have a "love/hate" relationship with computers - I love them, they hate me! Try the usual fix(es) for this problem.
ToolsOptionsGeneral uncheck "Ignore other Applications" Exit Excel and try again If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar 1) StartRun "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)OK. 2) StartRun "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK. See the space between exe and /regserver You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe. In that case StartRun "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK. Well, I figured it had to be a simple fix. I don't know how those settings
get changed, and come running here when they do. This is one of the best 'fix it' sites I've ever visited! -- I have a "love/hate" relationship with computers - I love them, they hate me!
