Default Excel changes not saved, then show up

I had a user with a weird problem with Excel 2003 on Windows 7 (new laptop he just got)

He was working on several Excel documents all day, and saving his work as he was going. But with Excel still open. He closed Excel and went back in and all the recent changes were not there. He tried again, same thing.

I went to check it out, and the folder he was putting stuff in seemed different, and he had the folder right in his "User" folder, so I moved it to his documents folder and copied all files there. I tried one of his same files, did some changes, saved, and it seemed fine.

He starts working on the file, and all the recent changes are suddenly back!!

No Malware. He had reduced Macro security in case that was anything, but he only had one macro on that file, which I got rid of (all it did was update cell color for certain cells).

I haven't reinstalled Office, but anything else I should look for. I did see that others had issues with changes not being saved, but no solutions.

Anyone ever see this?

Ed
