Default function for accessing a database

Is there a way for a function or some other method to access fields in a
database (Filemaker) for the purpose of populating cells in a spreadsheet?

Hi,

Look at the command Data, Import External Data, New Database Query

I have not worked with Filemaker so at this point you are on your own.

If the drive for Filemaker is listed select it and click OK, if not try <New
Data Source , OK and type a name in the first box and then open the second
drop down and see if there is a driver there for it.

If not you may need to contact Filemaker's help line and see if they have
drivers.

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,

Hi Shane
I have a database connection to Filemaker already set up in Excel. The
problem is that just dumps data in an Excel file.

What I am trying to do is to populate certain Excel cells with data from a
datasource (filemaker in this instance). This is similar to the merge field
function in Word. So, from certain cells in Excel, I would like to point to
the Filemaker database using some kind of Excel function and retreive data
for that cell from the database.
