Default In Excel fill & font colors not working

I went to message board, but the referred sites at MS no longer available.

a) The Excel 'Fill' color is not working at all.

b) And, the 'Font' color seems to be locked somehow. No matter what color I
click, it returns to black, and will show the auto black at the top of the
color grid. However, the color chosen block may also remained checked. When I
click on the cell, the text will appear with the red color but when I click
out of the cell, it returns to the black color. "Word" is working
correctly. Any help will be appreciated. Novusvir

The fill color, the fill pattern, or the line color of a WordArt or
AutoShape object in an Office document does not change
