Default Open Office file to EXCEL

I just installed Microsoft Office Professional.
I have been using Open Office for spreadsheets.
I can copy and paste my files into Excel but what is the best format to save
them in that carries all the formatting?

Default

You would want to save them in "Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls)"

But instead of copy|pasting from OpenOffice, couldn't you just File|open them in
Excel?
