Default chart with 2 colums to X-axis

Hi,
since we changed from Office97 to Office2002, we have problems with charts
that use 2 colums for the X-axis: the values of the X-axis are shown over
eachother and the lay-out of the format can't be configured anymore (got
screenshot of an example), anyone here has any idea?
thanks in advance,
Ed
