excel symbols
Hi Matt,
Let's say you want a column heading with the text: x to the power of 5. In the cell type x5, use the mouse to select the 5 Use the command Format|Cell and in the Font tab click the Superscript box. The same method can be used for subscripts Note that the effect shows on in the cell and not in Formula Bar Also if you link the cell to a chart title the formatting does not show on the chart Also you should know that in addition to using CHAR(n), you can hold down the ALT key and press 0n on the number pad. So ALT+0179 give superscript 3 ( ³) Best wishes Bernard www.stfx.ca/people/bliengme "matt dunbar" wrote in message ... Hi as a maths teacher - the symbols from the CHAR function are real useful unfortunately Excel only provides the text powers of 0,1,2,3 and limited numbers of fractions less than 1 from CHAR(185)CHAR(179)CHAR(178) CHAR(188)CHAR(189)CHAR(190) and thats it!! obviously powers of 4,5,6 and -1, -2 etc would be great and improper fractions anyone have a solution to this or do we have to live with this limitation?
