Remove hyperlink when pasting
I have someone in my group that is having a lot of trouble when pasting
a table generated from Mfg software. Basically her PC hangs (older PC and no chance of upgrade). The data is copied from a HTML table (export to Excel doesn't work because the file isn't static). It is then pasted into a new Excel 2003 Wordsheet. Each cell in the table now has its own cell in Excel. The first column is a hyperlink to view the drawing of the manufactured part. Simple enough. However, I belive the hyperlinks are source of the problem. She can't use PasteSpecial because the data isn't pasted as a table. Each row is pasted in one cell. I tried even going to Word first, but that caused the same problem of hangs and crashes. How can she paste the data from the clipboard into Excel and strip the hyperlinks as it is pasting? It takes so long or crashes the PC when she presses CTRL-V, that I wondered if there is a way to strip the hyperlinks as it is pasting. Any ideas?? Thanks, KS |

Try clearing out your temporary internet files.
Internet Explorer, tools, internet options, delete files button You don't say what version, but it could also be the shapes that are causing a problem. You are copying from Internet Explorer, right? and not from Front Page. I would think pasting from Front Page or Word would be worse. What version of Excel and version of operating system, how much RAM, and what is the system trying to use. Is the HTML page a public page you don't mind mentioning. You might try removing shapes and hyperlinks immediately, though you indicate the problem is in pasting so it would sound like it wouldn't. I tested with my own file about 6/10 down through 7/10 ths down is table in http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm with lots of links and a few shapes. (You have to use IE as your browser to copy to Excell, you can't copy to Excel from Firefox) Don't expect it to look exactly like the web page.. It pasted fine for me in Excel 2000 with 512MB of RAM and I'm not using all of the RAM. Using Windows 2000. To clear shapes use ALT+A to select all cells on sheet or a smaller area. The delShapesSel macro at http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/shapes.htm will remove any shape with the upper left corner with the selection area. Likewise the DelHyperlinks macro will delete object type hyperlinks in the selection area. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel...#DelHyperlinks --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "KS" wrote in message oups.com...
