Default Excel data range to access

Hi all,

I have a Excel chart that uses data from access. In excel I'm using the
data range and have it directed to the dB. However, when it triess to
refresh it gets and error "The database has been placed in a state by user
XXXXX that prevents it from being opened or locked".
The database has to be opened, so closing it isn't an option. I created
another dB that links to that other dB that needs to be open, but this didn't
help either.
How do I work around this?

Default Excel data range to access

Does it help if you open the database in Access and use
Tools Options Advanced Default open mode: shared
and then close the database.
