You should never save a file to removable data.

Back to the original question.
Please explain how this is an Excel question. Can you redo the email backups, or do you have to work with what you have. Where did the email come from (i.e. Outlook Express), How was it backed up? What are you trying to do with the backup (just read them, restore them, add them to existing email, transfer email to a new machine using same version of software). Sorry I don't know what you mean by the email looks like code. Do you mean programming source code, a hex dump, words but no spaces, no carriage returns, no tabs, unaligned. You might also take a look at http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/ie/oe6.htm and the links to Outlook Express sites, if OE is involved. If OE is not involved you may gain further insight by looking through material. Although I don't think it applies to your question, what Don was indicating is that it is very bad to write an Excel file directly from Excel to removable media (especially diskettes) because you put your data at risk. Same applies to reading files because Excel will want to put data back once changed. Excel files should be copied to or from removable data by other means. Excel creates a new copy before deleting the original and then renames the new copy. See http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/backup.htm for more details on why you risk loss of your data. Please use your name when posting to the Excel newsgroups. It is a lot more friendly and professional. Most people in these groups are or were involved heavily in computers, though not necessarily in Excel. We can certainly help you, but you must make questions clear. Some people discover that if they can define the question and make it real clear that they can answer their own question with a little practice. http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/posting.htm --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel [site changed Nov. 2001] My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm Search Page: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/search.htm "Don Guillett" wrote in message ...
