Default How do I open a shared xls workbook on a PC and Mac at the same ti

I can open a shared file in both Mac and PC and save changes if they are
opened separately. However, if the file is opened at the same time on both
platforms, the xls file will not save and 'cannot be found'.
Is there a way to open the file on both platforms at the same time and save
the changes?
I am using Windows XP and Excel 2000 on the PC, and the MacOS 10.3 has excel
2004.

You may get a better response if you post in the mac newsgroup.

(I'd bet most mac users are more used to pcs than the other way around.)
