i want to open a .PRN file as .txt or .xls
how can i accomplish this?

It's not really meaningful to "open" a prn file "as" a txt or xls. Prn files are also misnamed "space delimited," which are files that are actually padded with spaces so the data will be properly spaced horizontally when sent to a printer as is. They're not very useful for much anything else. They can be opened with NotePad, and you'll see the data, spaces included, exactly as in the file. You could probably open yours using the fixed (not delimited) option of the text import wizard. Read all about it at www.smokeylake.com/excel.
